As usual it has been a very busy week. Since last thursday we have had to take in 7 dogs of different shapes and sizes. They are all good sweet and kind dogs and if we cannot rehome them here to suitable families we will send them to the English Dog Trust where they will all be wanted and properly loved. Although I am sure that they will all be rehomed to special families, I still find it hard to put them into their travel crates because they are confused and somewhat frightened and I cannot explain that its the start of a new life for them. I just have to harden my heart and do it.

Sometimes this job is heartbreaking but it doesnt seem so bad if you can do something about the neglect that some of these dogs have endured in their little lives. Just recently a little Shih Tzu was brought into our vets at Auburn Rd in the most dreadful state that even the vet had not seen as bad. The Gardai were called and so far no owner was found but if  we find out who left this animal in such a state, they will be prosecuted for extreme cruelty. It would be hard for me to describe the awful state of this poor creature and it took a full month of treatment at the vets to help her to recover and we are so grateful to them particularly, Enda Finerty and his nurse Leane who were the first to see her. It would have been so easy for Enda to put her to sleep but instead he took on the task of aiding her recovery. I will show the pictures so that everyone can see how dreadful she must have suffered. HOWEVER PLEASE READ ON FOR THE GOOD NEWS.SHE HAS A NEW FAMILY AND SHE APPEARS TO BE FULLY RECOVERED AND IN GREAT FORM AND i HAVE A PICTURE BEFORE ME OF HER. HER NAME IS NOW RUBY AND SHE IS LYING OUT ON A DOGGY FOUR POSTER BED AND SHE LOOKS SO DIFFERENT AND LOVES HER NEW FAMILY... Of course they are besotted with her and she trusts them completely. She has a Shih tzu companion. Another little girl who was rescued from here 3 years ago. Her new wonderful family are George and Bernie Golden and if you see them out walking two little shih tzus say Hi for me. We will of course keep in close touch with them and in January we will have to have her spayed. Hopefully we will see you all in town on Sunday next as we will be taking part in what promises to be a very interesting day. Some of the streets in Mullingar will be closed off to traffic and there will be different stalls of all kinds. We will be bringing some puppies with us but of course we will not allow them to be handled and we will NOT BE REHOMING BEFORE XMAS. Rachel Findlay donated some gorgous puppy coats so we will make good use of them for the day. See you there I hope.

Yours sincerely,
Mary

Hi EVERYONE!

The diary is back and I hope to keep up to date with all that happens here on a daily basis.
First of all I want to thank everyone who has helped us to keep going for all of 14 years and without that help and support we would not be here. Apart from their practical help on a day to day basis, I now know that these people are our friends and I am so grateful for their friendship!
I cannot personally thank everyone and you all know who you are, but I have to say a special Thank You to Gary and Penny Toolan who were wonderful to us and to our animals. I cannot begin to tell you what they did for us, even paying for us to go on a wonderful holiday to Portugal which we loved and that is the last holiday we have been on, so you can imagine how thrilled we were to have been given such a treat. So thanks again Penny and Gary and I know that you will be embarrassed when you read this / TOUGH !!!
Thanks also to Alan and Sandra Chapman and their family for all their support and financial help because they are so generous with their Standing orders which helps a lot and to Dr. Simone Hass who also supported us practically and financially who has since had a fire at her house and my best wishes go out to her and her family. Thankfully no one was hurt except one of her pet cats who died from smoke inhalation and I know that the family have mourned her.
Congratulations and thanks to Irene Doran and her partner Martin  who have the gift of a new baby son and they deserve this wonderful child who was so wanted and their son John Martin who is 12 and is already planning what he will teach his baby brother as he grows up.
Today was a very difficult day for me. We sent 7 dogs and 7 puppies to England where they are guaranteed a wonderful future where everything is checked and double checked to ensure that they will have a  perfect loving home for their lifetime.
Although I am sure that they will have everything that they will ever need I am still upset when they are going because they are confused with the whole transport thing and I cannot explain to them that their future is secure and they will be happy ever after.
They are gone now and all I can do is to cry quietly somewhere and get over their loss. Animal welfare is so painful sometimes and I will never be able to be cool about it.
Please start to keep in touch with our website as we have much to tell on a daily basis and don't forget my great friend Geraldine Butler who has a Cattery where she does wonderful work with and for cats.
